Super Visa

Most have heard that a visa is generally required to enter Canada. Some might have even heard of the term super visa. But is there such a thing? Yes, there is! While a visa and a super visa are similar, there are slightly different requirements and privileges associated with each. The main benefit of a super visa is that it allows foreign nationals to enter Canada for up to 5 years at a time (as opposed to 6 months). A super visa is also a multi-entry visa that is typically valid for up to 10 years (or until passport expiry). There are a few additional documents required to apply for a super visa such as proof of health insurance. The following article will cover the eligibility criteria and other details super visa applicants need to look into.

Yes, purchasing health insurance is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a super visa in Canada. The Canadian government requires applicants to obtain private health insurance coverage that meets specific criteria. This insurance must be valid for at least one year from the date of entry into Canada and provide coverage for healthcare, hospitalization, and repatriation. Adequate health insurance is crucial to ensure that you have access to necessary medical services while you are in Canada, as healthcare costs can be significant without insurance coverage. Therefore, it's essential to purchase health insurance that meets the requirements outlined by the Canadian government when applying for a super visa.

The specific amount of funds required varies depending on the number of family members included in your application and the size of your family.

Can I apply for a super visa if I am visa-exempt?

Yes, if you are a citizen of a country that does not require a visitor visa, you may still apply for one at the port of entry when you arrive in Canada. Applying for a super visa in this circumstance has the same benefit and allows you to remain in Canada for 5 years as opposed to 6 months.

I am on a super visa can I become a permanent resident?

A common question many people ask is whether a super visa can be used to apply for permanent residence. While a super visa does not guarantee PR, it may well be the first step to becoming a Canadian permanent resident.
